Story of Dgallery
“We are striving to collect as many Chinese works of art and literature from abroad as possible.”
“We are striving to collect as many Chinese works of art and literature from abroad as possible.”
The mission of DGallery is dedicated to preserving the diverse cultural heritage passed down by the Chinese community. We are actively searching for art, crafts and antiques of Chinese high-value artworks dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. In the current era we are living in, the Chinese community has been scattered around the world, and interfacing with local cultures in the practice of traditional customs in everyday life. Over time, this has developed into a unique community identity, which is reflected in artistic creation.
As a source of Chinese civilisation, China has a large number of cultural works from different dynasties and fields, including root carvings, wood carvings, jade carvings, cloisonné, landscape paintings, figure paintings, flower and bird paintings and calligraphy, etc. The Malaysian Chinese, on the other hand, have developed a variety of crafts based on traditional Chinese arts, combining the cultural characteristics of their ancestral hometown of Chaoshan, Fujian, Guangdong and even our Malay compatriots.
DGallery is well aware of the preciousness of these artworks, thus we have spared no effort and expense over the years to collect numbers of antiques, crafts and artworks from all over the world. We intend to preserve the various craftsmanship and connotation ideas left by our ancestors, avoiding their loss while presenting them to future generations, in hope that the new generations will be able to carry on and develop these millennia-old
material civilisations.
The establishment of DGallery was the result of the founder, Mr. Yap, deep interest and love towards collecting all kinds of classical Chinese cultural relics which he regarded as important spiritual treasures for the Chinese people. On the advice of a good friend, he decided to gather and systematically arrange all kinds of antiques, crafts and artworks that he had collected for a long time. Also sought expert advice and wrote a concise introduction to the background and meaning of each piece. With the intention to introduce DGallery as a Private Museum to the public in near future hoping that through the contrast between the artefacts and the introduction, you will be able to understand the deep-seated Chinese culture in Chinese artworks.
DGallery’s collection currently falls into two broad categories: antiques with historical and market value, and artefacts with cultural and artistic value. Both epitomise the various stages of development of Chinese civilisation. In nearly 1,000 pieces in DGallery, there are Buddhist and Taoist artworks, carved
crafts, ancient traditional furniture, paintings from famous artists, including the various tools used in the city of Beijing in the late Qing Dynasty, etc. We are striving to collect as many Chinese works of art and literature from abroad as possible. Regardless of boundaries, we hope to be fortunate enough to reach and preserve the tangible object. This is an opportunity for future generations to see the rich legacy left to us by the sages of the past.
