馬西光 Ma Xi Guang

Ma Xiguang, No. Xue Yak, Zhai No. Yak Zhai, was born in Linyi, Shanxi in 1932, and his ancestral home is Shandong. He has successively studied in the School of Art of Northwest Military and Political University and the Department of Chinese Painting of Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. He is good at Chinese painting and is famous for his plateau figure paintings. He is currently a full-time painter of Qinghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, a member of China Artists Association, a professor of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Correspondence University, and a member of the Qinghai Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He also served as vice-chairman of Qinghai branch of China Artists Association and vice-president of Xuanpu Painting Academy.

Ma Xiguang has lived in the plateaus for nearly 40 years, and is familiar with and loves the landscape of the plateaus. His freehand figure paintings have a strong frontier charm and convey unrestrained passion. The images of other animals are all flesh and blood, emotional and sexual, making the lively northwest customs vividly on the paper. Ma Xiguang’s works have won a number of art awards, such as “Xiaoyue in the Hanhai” won the 30th Anniversary Art Exhibition Award, “The Sound of the Piano” won the gold award in the 97th Art Competition, “Moon Rhythm” was selected in the Centennial Chinese Painting Exhibition, etc. ” and many other works are also collected by the National Art Museum of China and other units. Ma Xiguang has held solo exhibitions in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other places successively, and is the author of “A Brief Talk on Freehand Figure Painting”, “Ma Xiguang’s Works”, “Ma Xiguang’s Painting Collection” and university Chinese painting textbooks ” Ink and Wash Freehand Figure Painting Techniques, etc., is known as the “Pioneer of Plateau Painting School” and “the most influential contemporary painter”.
