Luo Tuo, born in Penang in 1928, is a native of Fujian and is a well-known painter with international reputation. He is famous for painting horses. Luo Tuo is a disciple and adopted son of Xu Beihong, a contemporary Chinese art master. He studied at the Beiping Art School and the China Central Academy of Fine Arts. He has been taught by Xu Beihong, Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Wu Zuoren, Li Keran, Li Ruinian, and Jiang Zhaohe since childhood. He is good at painting animals, landscapes, figures, flowers, and other themes, especially in horse painting. Xu Beihong’s wife Liao Jingwen once commented on his horse: “It is majestic and gives people a feeling of being overwhelmed by mountains and moving forward bravely.” In 1956, Luo Tuo was elected as a member of the Chinese Artists Association, engaged in art education and art criticism, and successively held exhibitions in academic institutions such as Ontario College of Art, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, University of Minnesota, Malaysia, Thailand, and other countries. He has published and lectured, and his work “A Journey in the Deep Mountains” has even been collected by the Royal Ontario Museum, one of the top ten museums in the world. This shows the high artistic value of Luo Tuo’s paintings.
